For the first time since 2019, the Benet Academy Concert Chorale had the privilege of touring and performing all over Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden this summer. The trip’s purpose was to visit new locations and see other cultures while sharing music and learning about other traditions. The students arrived in Europe on June 12 and left on June 21.
The Benet Chorale performed more than seven times across their three-country trip. They performed in five churches, including Grundtvigskirken and Hallgrimskirkja, one castle, one palace, and many impromptu performances in town squares, like the Tivoli Gardens. Music Director Mr. Brian Wand reminisced on the trip, saying, “The audiences were very accepting, welcoming, and supportive.” He further explained, “Denmark and Iceland have strong chorale traditions, making them more appreciative of the music.”
The music used on the trip were songs the Chorale had sung in the 2023-2024 school year. Therefore, the Chorale was already well prepared to take on an international audience.
Moreover, the trip was full of amazing memories. In Iceland, students embraced the beautiful natural wonders. They were able to participate in glacier hikes, watch waterfalls, and enjoy the Blue Lagoon. In Denmark, students embraced history and went to museums and castles.
Overall, the trip was a beautiful experience where Benet could participate in an exchange of cultures between Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and the Benet community.
