The Varsity Girls Benet tennis team would not quit after an amazing win at conference until they made their way to State. They swept their regular season with a zero-loss record! This made winning sectionals a breeze, sending them straight to State! The girls won the 2024 IHSA 1A State Championship on Saturday, October 26th. Shane Delaney (SR) and Clare Lopatka (SR) repeated as State Doubles Champion. Shane Delaney, who has been on Varsity since freshman year, says, “Clare and I have been a unit for so long now! I couldn’t have been happier to end my high school career with the best teammate and friend. I am so thankful to have been able to win this title my last year of high school, Clare and I are both so proud!”
Natalie Grover (SR) and Katie Jendra (SR) also returned to the podium with a 4th place finish in doubles. This has been their best state finish so far, showing their great hard work and dedication. (SR) Meredith Converse (top 8) and (SR) Lily Lopatka (top 12) provided the points from the singles.
Last year, the season ended with a State Championship for the Varsity Benet Tennis Girls, making this year a repeat! It was an exciting day, and the girls were basking in their accomplishments, so much so that we were the last team to leave Hersey High School. This was the perfect way to end the victorious season.
