Mr. Corrigan is no stranger to the Benet Community. A Benet graduate in 2002 and teacher at the Academy since 2007, he has exemplified the Benet cornerstones as both a former student and faculty member. His return to Benet in the Social Studies Department can be partly attributed to his positive experience as a student of Mr. Nagis, Mr. Bonebrake, Mr. Doyle, and Mr. Noel, among other teachers.
After studying foreign service and majoring in international history at the highly selective Georgetown University, Mr. Corrigan returned to Benet, beginning his career by teaching both World History to freshmen and Modern World History to sophomores. Currently, he teaches AP Psychology and AP European History.
Known for his in-class puns and jokes, he believes that the awesome aspects of teaching are “coming up with original ways of looking at… subjects” and bringing a new vibe to the classroom each year.
Besides his impact in the classroom, Mr. Corrigan has contributed to the legacy of Benet basketball. At first, he coached the boys’ program, and after six years, was asked to join the coaching staff of girls basketball. There, he spent three years as the sophomore head coach and varsity assistant, where, in 2015 and 2016, he helped win back-to-back state championship titles.
At home, he is the father of three children and the husband of Kristen, who is also a Benet graduate. Going on his eighteenth year as a Benet teacher, he reflects that the Benet community has been an ever-present constant throughout his life.
A father, coach, and teacher, Mr. Corrigan excels in all areas of his life. While some may miss him on the court, Benet Academy is extraordinarily lucky to have Mr. Corrigan in the classroom. All his students, past and present, can attest to this truth. Elise Willis, a junior at Benet and an AP Psychology student of Mr. Corrigan, says he “integrates education into interactive activities, which makes learning fun.” Her experience is ubiquitous—everyone loves having Mr. Corrigan as a teacher.
