This year, Benet Academy welcomed a new addition to our athletic and academic community: Mr. Gawlik. Originally from Carol Stream, Coach Gawlik brings enthusiasm and a passion for sports with him, which is sure to inspire students both on and off the field. Coach Gawlik was looking for a school like Benet’s environment, stating, “I was looking for a forever ‘home’ to coach and teach, and Benet was the perfect fit for me!” 

Before becoming a Physical Education teacher at Benet, Coach Gawlik had an impressive coaching career. He coached football at Glenbard North High School and worked as a football and wrestling coach in Covington, Georgia. As wrestling coach; he helped 4 of his students qualify for state, which he sees as his proudest coaching moment so far.

 Growing up, he participated in a few sports: T-ball and baseball were some of his long-time sports, but it was during high school that he truly found his niche for football and track & field. His junior and senior years were the prime of his athletic career, especially when his 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams took first place at their conference meet. These experiences proved to be memorable moments that inspired his career path. 

Today, Coach Gawlik’s favorite sport is Football. He currently coaches the freshmen team, helping them dominate in their season. Coach Gawlik’s main goal with his players is to teach them the fundamentals and prepare them for the next step.

When questioned about what he enjoys most about coaching, Coach Gawlik said, “The most rewarding part is seeing the ‘lightbulb’ go off when an athlete learns a new skill or technique. I also love seeing my students and athletes succeed both on and off the field and grow into great parts of our community.” For his athletes, Coach Gawlik has one crucial piece of advice: “Be coachable. Be willing to learn, digest as much information as possible, and always ask questions.”

In his free time, Coach Gawlik likes to snowboard, dirt bike, and golf. His favorite teams are the Chicago Bears and Cubs. His favorite athlete is Lebron James.

Mr. Gawlik is extraordinarily passionate about building strong connections with his students and players, who view him as an inspiring role model. With Coach Gawlik’s dedication, passion, and expertise, Benet Academy will benefit greatly from his leadership for years to come.
