Before becoming a math teacher, Mr. Emge was a scholar in many respects. In addition to being salutatorian at Lincoln-Way East High School, where he participated in academic competitions like the Math, Chess, and Scholastic Bowl teams. After going to Purdue University for a degree in Mathematics, Mr. Emge taught at two middle schools in the Upper Midwest before being hired at Benet.
Years later, Mr. Emge is relearning many of these same concepts as head coach of Benet’s Math Team. Despite smaller specialized team sizes due to fall sports conflicts, Mr. Emge demonstrated his skill in motivating the team by leading Benet to a decisive finish at the first North Suburban Math League meet. Beyond the meets, Mr. Emge hopes to incorporate a culture of achievement into the Math Team, stating, “I look forward to supporting our team through thick and thin, and my experiences with its members have only reinforced my view.”
Outside of school, Mr. Emge is an avid participant in board games, particularly ones like Settlers of Catan, which involve immense amounts of strategic planning. Additionally, he frequently plays both sand and court volleyball with his friends. The Benet community welcomes Mr. Emge with open arms!
