On April 16th, Benet Academy history teacher, Mr. Noel, and Benet Academy senior, Isabella Olivares, received awards from the Daughters of the American Revolution National Headquarters. Mr. Noel was honored with the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Teacher of American History Award. This award honors notable history teachers who have positively impacted the lives of students. Isabella Olivares was honored with the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Citizenship Award in recognition of her commitment to service, leadership, and patriotism. Mr. Noel was nominated by Mr. Corrigan, the Benet Academy History Department Chair, and Dr. Frieri, Benet Academy’s Assistant Principal of Curriculum.
Mr. Noel has been inspiring Benet Academy students for almost forty years. A former student of Mr. Noel was able to provide a recommendation letter, an extraordinary honor that shines light on his illustrious career and long-standing commitment to the Benet community. The recommendation letter and longevity of Mr. Noel’s teaching career set him apart from the other candidates.
Isabella was nominated by the counseling department. High schools are free to nominate one senior for this award. Isabella’s positive achievements allowed her to stand out from the other candidates. Isabella displayed both service and leadership through annual participation in a sixteen-hour church resale event. Next year, Isabella will be attending the United States Air Force Academy to further serve her country and demonstrate her patriotism. Isabella was extremely grateful to be recognized, sharing, “I feel very honored to achieve this award. It shows that high school students can be patriotic in their own way, and still make an impact on the world.”
Mr. Noel and Isabella have genuinely impacted the Benet Community. They have inspired others and demonstrated qualities that allow them to be named “Outstanding Citizens.” Benet Academy is so proud of both Isabella and Mr. Noel for their remarkable achievement. Through their positive outlook on life and consistent efforts to help others, Mr. Noel and Isabella are truly outstanding citizens.
