Student Government elections took place the week of April 8, and the winner was announced on April 12. The elections took place two weeks earlier than last year. Six tickets ran for the esteemed position of President and Vice President. The tickets included: Coleman and Coleman, Heimburger and Rauduve, Lange and Baer, Petratos and Conway, Sobkowiak and Jeka, and Zoberis and Mongirdas.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the six tickets campaigned in St. Martin’s Lobby. Each ticket carried out creative and thrilling campaigns with great election videos and posters. Baer explained her ticket’s campaigning process. “We [Lange and Baer] wanted our video to make the students laugh and truly show how much we care about boosting school spirit at Benet.” Moreover, Lange explained his election strategies, saying, “This year, there were so many good candidates, which made it extremely competitive. We [Lange and Baer] knew that if we wanted to win we would need the votes from the underclassman.”
On Wednesday, April 10, it was announced that there would be a runoff between Jeffery Lange & Hannah Baer, and Nick Zoberis & Korina Mongirdas. Baer shared her anxiety going into runoffs, stating, “Our feelings continued to fluctuate, but we tried very hard to stay positive because no matter the outcome, we both knew next year would be great.” On April 12 it was announced that the 2024-2025 Student Government President and Vice President would be Jeffery Lange and Hannah Baer.
Lange described his emotions when hearing the news; “When Hannah and I found out we won, it was so surreal.” Lange and Baer have big plans for next year. The pair shared their various plans including, turning Nightmare On Maple Street into a $10,000 event, bringing back intramural sports, and possibly a coffee shop in the school cafeteria. Lange concluded saying, “Our main goal is to reignite the school spirit that once beheld our community.”
