In 2024, Benet’s very own Steve and Greg Frey were nominated to receive the Saint Louis University Pioneer Award. This honor is given annually to SLU alumni who are driven and hardworking as well who uphold the Jesuit values through their actions and achievements in service while continuing to support SLU’s mission. Saint Louis University offers many different categories for awards in education departments for those dedicated to their profession. However, the Pioneer Award is one of the most significant achievements granted to distinguished members of the Billiken community. The brothers were nominated by Ramon Marth, a fellow SLU alum. He received an email asking for nominations for the 2024 Alumni Merit Awards earlier in the year.
Mr. Marth says he chose the brothers for his nomination because, “If it were not for Greg and Steve Frey, Benet would not have its involvement in ImagininGuatemala.” Mr.
Marth also mentioned that in the wake of the pandemic, Steve Frey worked tirelessly with Student Government to keep Benet Academy activities and events alive despite the difficulties of hosting events during the pandemic. It is through the Frey brothers’ accomplishments and “pioneering spirit” that they have been granted this recognition. They will be honored and given their awards with 13 other recipients of different categories during the Commencement Recognition Dinner on Friday, May 17, 2024.
