On April 11th, two of Benet’s very own were inducted into the East Suburban Catholic’s 2024 Hall of Fame. Former WNBA player Kathleen Doyle and All-American nominee at Nebraska Meghan Haggerty were joined by Sarah Doyle (Carmel Catholic), Annemarie Hickey (Joliet Catholic), James Randle (Joliet Catholic), Scott Bodnar (Marian Catholic), Brooke Wyderski (Marist), Dennis Moran (Nazareth), Jeremy Schoenecker (Notre Dame), William Stanton (Notre Dame), Anthony Scala (Saint Patrick), Daniel Stringfellow (Saint Viator), and Denise Walker (Saint Viator).
Kathleen was named Ms. Basketball in Illinois and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee before receiving All-American honors at Iowa. During her time here at Benet, she led the girl’s basketball team to the state championships in her junior and senior years in 2015 and 2016. This year, in 2024, she became the first female athlete to have her number retired by Benet. She later went on to be drafted onto the Indiana Fever in 2020 and played one season for them, along with two more in Poland and Turkey, before retiring from professional basketball in 2023.
Meghan Haggerty, class of 2011, was an All-American in volleyball and later a four-year starter All-American nominee at Nebraska. She helped guide Benet to the 2011 Illinois 4A state championship, as well as a number 4 national ranking by ESPN HS. She received an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2012 and 2013, AVCA All-North Region First Team (2013), AVCA All-Mideast Region Honorable Mention (2012), two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, All-Big Ten Freshman Team (2012), four-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week (2012), Academic All-Big Ten (2013), Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll (Fall 2012). and the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016.
