Preparing for a new school year can be challenging for everyone, especially new freshmen. To acclimate to high school life, Benet Academy introduced the Center for Academic Redwing Enrichment (CARE) in 2024 to help. For two weeks in late June, the center offered many ways to prepare students for Benet rigor through thought-provoking classes, collaborative activities, and other creative opportunities. For more specialized help, the PREP (Plan for Technology, Readiness for Freshman Success, Excellence in Academic Readiness, and Participation in the Benet community) classes taught students “time management skills, prioritizing a homework-life balance, and cultivating a growth mindset” throughout July and August.
According to the National Society of High School Scholars, “When you fail to manage your time effectively, you may constantly rush to complete assignments, cram for exams, or miss deadlines. This can lead to a decline in academic performance, increased stress levels, and overall dissatisfaction with your educational experience” (Zoloth 2024). Therefore, students must develop these skills to succeed in their secondary, collegiate, and professional careers. The leaders of Benet Academy have shrewdly determined that the most fruitful way to sharpen these skills was through the Benet CARE Program.
