The cast of Benet Academy’s spring musical Newsies has begun to “Seize the Day” as they kicked off performances and reached the finish line. The production ran for two weekends in St. Daniel’s Auditorium and fans are raving about it. This show was filled with many talented students from all grades, including Junior Domonic Piscopo.
When asked what his favorite memory of Newsies was, Piscopo shared: “Learning the tap choreography to King of New York was absolutely exhausting, but it was so so so much fun!” He further explained that he had very little experience in tap, but learning from Mrs. Peceniak was easy and engaging. This cast has several named characters with opportunities for lines. According to Piscopo, the character building was unique with the amount of characters included in the musical. He shares that his favorite part is the “King of New York” part including insanely fast-paced and tiring choreography. In terms of actual songs, “Once and For All” is Piscopo’s favorite to sing, especially with the key and tempo change towards the end.
In the end, when asked what he learned from the musical, he shared: “I’ve learned that there is so much to learn from those around you. Learning the choreography and the notes is one thing, but seeing how other people add their own characters’ flare to them is a completely different thing.” Audience members thought the Benet musical was such a marvelous performance. The audience members shared the sentiment that the Newsies was a wonderful show, packed with so much enthusiasm and passion.
