On March 22nd, thirteen Benet Academy Scholars embarked on the trip of a lifetime. These thirteen Benet Scholars received the opportunity of participating in the 38th annual Harvard Model Congress. Benet Academy set up this phenomenal experience, planning the trip down to the minute, ensuring that the students experienced Boston to the fullest. The Scholars eagerly flew out to Boston on March 22nd, where they spent the weekend participating in designated congressional committees. Within these committees each scholar assumed the role of a different congressperson. Throughout the weekend Scholars debated issues, drafted bills, and collaborated with students from across the nation.The Benet Scholars also experienced an exclusive tour of Harvard University. They learned about interesting historical events that occurred on the Harvard campus, as well as facts regarding student life.
Finally, the Scholars received the opportunity to sit in on a Harvard lecture of their choosing. Scholar’s chose between classes about economics, government, math, or computer science. They then listened to distinguished professors, and experienced life as a real Harvard student.
Junior John Augustyn stated, “The Benet Scholars trip to Boston was a unique and thoughtful adventure that I have never regretted taking for even a single second. It taught me how to think, how to convince, and how to respect the importance of others.” Ultimately, the Benet Academy Scholars returned home with a new understanding of American Government, and memories to last a lifetime.
