The All Saints’ Day Mass took place on November 1st in St. Ronald’s Gymnasium. The Mass started with a brief speech and introduction by Benet Academy’s President Mr. Myers. He talked briefly about the school, but more importantly about Sister Azra. Sister Azra is one of Benet’s friends from Imiliwhaha and came all the way from Tanzania to take part in the special Mass. While Sister Azra did not speak, her presence alone made the service even more special. Following Mr. Myers’ speech, the service began. The Mass choir and Orchestra were a noteworthy part of the service. They performed excellently, every note being played with passion. Their performance elevated the service. The readings were read by students and the homily by Deacon Christopher. He never fails to disappoint students, as his homilies are always engaging and meaningful. Once the mass concluded, Mr. Myers returned to the podium to introduce another guest—Mr. Schneider, the second speaker in the alumni speaker series. Mr. Schneider is a Benet graduate and former Spanish teacher. He talked about his many journeys abroad and his experiences at and away from Benet. The main message in his speech was how important it is to try new things and experience new places. He said that it is important to do so because then you can broaden your horizons and become open to new things. He emphasized the importance of learning something different from what you know, like a new culture or language, so that you can be more intelligent when going into the real world. After Mr. Schneider finished his fabulous speech, the Mass concluded. Overall, the students felt that All Saints’ Day Mass was a great way to acknowledge the special day and celebrate.
