Winter sports have officially begun, and it was time for the boys basketball team to host their first home game. On December 1st, Benet Academy hosted Notre Dame. The game was the main topic amongst students for the day, and it did not disappoint students’ expectations. While the game ended 40-34 in Benet’s favor, the entire game was a nail-biter, with both teams going back and forth between points.
In the first half, both teams showcased their defensive and offensive power. Benets’ defense prowess especially showed in this half, making it extremely difficult for Notre Dame’s offense to advance. Notre Dame kept up with Benet by retaliating with their defensive skills. The first half didn’t have as many shots, concluding with Benet up 19-14.
The second half didn’t have as much defensive power as the last. Both teams had more chances to slip through each other’s defense, allowing for more shot opportunities. Notre Dame was able to shoot more 3-pointers, helping them take the lead on numerous occasions. Benet, while not taking as many 3-pointers, created more opportunities in the paint. Benet truly showed how great their full-court vision is. They showed skilled passing and ball control throughout the half, helping them defeat Notre Dame 40-34.
The game showcased, not only to Benet students but also to middle schoolers hoping to go to Benet, how entertaining Benet basketball games can be.
