Benet Academy kicked off a great weekend on October 28, at the Pumpkin Derby event at Rotary Park in Naperville. There was a fantastic turnout of all ages and unique costumes for the costume contest. Benet Academy clubs represented the Redwings including the Environmental Club, Car Club, and a handful of others. All proceeds from this event were used to benefit Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, a program that provides learning opportunities on social skills and many other necessary skills for individuals on the spectrum.
The event kicked off at noon with the first race for Turning Pointe students at 12:30. A great public qualifying race began, in which any person was able to enter. Next, the costume contest was judged right before the commencement of the quarter and semifinals, and eventually the finals. Benet Academy’s own Car Club had their pumpkin (a white pumpkin featuring the club’s own Mr. Helmick, as well as a plastic Audi) advance to the finals and win a ribbon.
Overall, it was a festive day at Rotary Hill Park in Naperville. Events including tents, a food truck, a costume contest, and of course, the famous pumpkin race all helped to make the day truly special.
