Mrs. Pat Cunneen in the counseling department retired in September of this year. Her position as Administrative Assistant has been filled by Mrs. Sarah Black.
Mrs. Black grew up Catholic in Rochelle, Illinois before going to college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her B.S. in Accountancy and a Master of Accounting Science. After graduation, she lived in Lincoln Park while working in the city. She has also lived in Ohio and Virginia. Mrs. Black moved to Lisle just this past summer after living in London.
While in London, she worked for the Archdiocese of Southwark. She has also volunteered in children’s schools and worked as an auditor for a Big Four public accounting firm. When a position at the Counseling Department at Benet Academy opened, Mrs. Black said she believed “it would be a great place to contribute [her] previous professional experience for the benefit of college-bound Redwings.”
Mrs. Black loves to travel with her family. Some of the places she has been include Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Italy. This past Christmas, Pope Francis had a General Audience at the Vatican, where he greeted and shook hands with her three children.
Benet Academy is described as a place “to know and be known.” Mrs. Black expressed that she feels a sense of community among the faculty and students: “I am looking forward to getting to know everyone, so please feel free to stop by the Counseling Department to say hello,” she emphasized.
