Among Benet Academy’s numerous clubs this year, one of them stands out in the spotlight: Robotics. After a good season last year, with the team placing 3rd and narrowly missing out on going to State by just a few points, the team has decided to start their new season off with a clean slate. Just this summer, the Robotics Lab was completely renovated. The remodeling included a new paint job, lighting fixtures, more readily available supplies, windows, and places to store construction materials.
Not only are there new supplies, but also new team members. The robotics team has a total of 24 team members this year, compared to last year’s 16 active members. Many of the team members have voiced ideas that they believe would help the team develop. The more popular opinions include beginning the season in the summer rather than the beginning of the school year and creating a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. One team member, Matthew Budd, reflected upon these opinions, stating, “I really like the idea of splitting by skill, but I believe we have a lot of people interested this year and it would be rather difficult to only have 2 teams. What about a V, JV, and frosh-soph team?” He continued, “Starting in the summer would definitely help the club. It would allow us to have a completed robot sooner and be able to compete in more competitions, increasing our school’s chance of going to state,”
Right now the team is planning to have their first completion in December. With a lineup of four teams and a brand new lab, the Benet Robotics Team is ready to achieve their dreams of going to State and beyond.
