On September 9, Benet Academy celebrated its annual Homecoming week and dance. Student Government worked hard to decorate Benet Academy with blue streamers, fish, and balloons that aligned with this year’s theme: Under the Sea.
The week was kicked off by a movie night at Benet Academy on Monday evening. Students gathered in the St. Martin’s parking lot for a drive-in movie experience to watch Jaws and enjoy traditional theater snacks provided by the Benet Academy Mothers Club.
Each day during the week, students were able to dress down. There were Spirit Days, a Slop Day, and even a day for Hawaiian shirts. Benet Academy also had their first Mothers’ Club Cookie Day of the school year. Students rushed out from their 9th period classes to grab a special treat at the end of the day.
After a half day of school on Friday, a pep rally took place to honor those participating in fall sports and to promote school spirit. The event featured tug-of-war, musical chairs, a cheer performance, Avions light show routine, and a band performance.
On Friday evening, the student body gathered in the stands of Benedictine University for the Homecoming Football Game against Immaculate Conception. The game was beach themed. The student section was completely packed to cheer on the Benet Academy Football Team. The Avions, Cheerleaders, and Marching Band all performed during halftime. The Homecoming King and Queen, Jack Vought, and Kaitlyn Paulin, were also announced.
The Homecoming dance and Freshman Mixer took place on Saturday evening. At 5:00 pm, freshmen gathered to dance, enjoy pizza, and get to know each other. At 7:30 pm, sophomores, juniors, and seniors began arriving for the Homecoming dance, which was held in the St. Martin’s parking lot. There was a DJ, photo booth, pizza, and plenty of dancing.
Student Government President, Michael Budd, described the event as a success. He said, “I believe the dance was a success because of the high turnout this year. I would like to thank the Dance Committee, who collected tickets all week and the sophomore representatives who collected money for the freshman mixer.”
