On Wednesday, May 10th, the Boy’s Track and Field Team had their Conference Championship meet. The boys faced heavy competition as there were eight other schools at the meet. These schools were: St. Viator, Marist, St. Patricks, Carmel Catholic, Notre Dame, Marian Catholic, Joliet Catholic Academy, and Nazareth Academy. Competing at Conference were either athletes in Varsity or the Frosh/Soph category. Field events started first. The field events collected a handful of points that added to the team score. Benet Athletes that were in the top 3 in their respective field events were Aidan Dentice, Joe Rocchi, Tommy Wickstrom, and Owen Takahashi. Running events started about an hour later than field events. The running events were extremely competitive, with tight races in all events. Benet running athletes who placed in the top 3 spots includes Owen Takahashi, Griffin Schneid, Ethan Ortiz, John Pogue, Will Shaeffer, Finn Richards, Aiden Hulett, Sebastian Knox, Charlie Phelan, Robert Johnson, Zach Ebert, Robert Sturgala, Ethan Ortiz, James Napier, Michael Baker, Jacob Molloy, Matthew Spellman, and Tommy Pytel. The distance track team, however, dominated in almost all of their events. Distance Track Coach, Tom Choice, said “I want the teams in our conference to know that Benet Academy distance track will forever dominate the conference.” While the competition was tough, Benet continued to push through and received 2nd place in the Men’s Varsity level overall, and 3rd in the Men’s Frosh/Soph level overall.
