With a 2-0 win over the Nazareth Academy Roadrunners on May 3, Benet Varsity Soccer has clinched their ESCC Conference Title. Benet has remained undefeated in Conference throughout the season and has a conference goal difference of +27, while 17 saves across six games from keeper Shannon Clark ensured that Benet did not concede a single goal in league play. The Redwings’ strong attack-minded play and their fearlessness to utilize their wide forwards in a winger’s role incapacitated their opponents and left them unable to form any reliable counterattack. Freshman midfielder Ivana Vukas leads the scoring with ten goals in 19 games. Senior Anna Casmere is in second with nine goals in all 19 games, and junior Rania Fikri grabs third place with six goals. Anna Casmere also leads the assist sheet with nine, while sophomore Keira Petrucelli and senior Gabi Dimatteo are tied for third with eight assists.

REDWING PLAYER OF THE SEASON:

As the regular season finishes, we at the Herald have decided to crown the Redwing Player of the Season. This year’s Redwing Player of the Season is senior midfielder Anna Casmere! Anna was among the most prolific in front of goal and was instrumental in setting up much of the Redwing’s chances. As a pacy and technically gifted winger who could also play as a wide striker, she brought a lot of versatility and lethality to Benet’s flank. Her season was truly remarkable, and she deserves this award.

BREAKOUT STAR:

The breakout star of this season was freshman Ivana Vukas. She is one of the most skillful players on this team, even as a freshman, and she has an eye for goal, which means she can effectively play any attacking position. She led the scoring, had among the most assists, and dazzled the crowds every game with her creativity on the ball. In a few years, she will doubtless become one of the cornerstones of this team. We will look forward to what is yet to come with Ivana.
