In With the New

The new Student Government moderators, Ms. Condon and Ms. Carlevato.
Student Government is one of the largest, most encompassing clubs at Benet – so naturally it’s a big deal when the moderators of this club change. At the end of last year, Mr. Steve Frey and Mr. Kevin Veselik stepped down from their positions as moderators. Now, a very different duo takes their places: Ms. Lauren Condon and Ms. Meagan Carlevato. Coincidently, all four of these Benet teachers are Benet alum who participated in SG as students.
Ms. Condon teaches sophomore and senior English. When asked why she wanted to be a moderator for Student Government, she responded, “Student Government has been a big part of my life from fifth grade through college. I was always involved.” She credited Mr. Ed Noel for having a large impact on her life, making her want to be a leader. She wants to help teach students to be leaders. Ms. Condon was a representative for SG her junior year at Benet and chair for the special events committee her senior year.
Ms. Condon says that her goal for Student Government is to continue the great work that Mr. Frey, Mr. Veselik, and Ms. Carlevato have done in the past.
Ms. Carlevato is the Assistant Dean of Students, in addition to teaching one Spanish class. She has also held the title of Student Government Moderator before and expressed to us how fantastic of an experience it was working with students in this capacity. When asked about her reasons behind becoming an SG Moderator again, she said, “It is rewarding to see the students become such strong leaders of the school.” Ms. Carlevato has similarly served as a class representative in high school and a dorm representative in college. Some of the important qualities she looks for in a leader are enthusiasm, good listening, communication skills, honesty, positive attitude, and, especially, the want for others to succeed! Ms. Carlevato says that she always looks forward to the changes and new ideas each class comes up with every year, particularly how the members leave their SG footprint on the school.
Student Government stands as one of the largest, most influential clubs at Benet year after year with the vast help and wisdom provided by its two moderators. This year’s SG will remember Mr. Frey and Mr. Veselik but gives a warm welcome to Ms. Condon and Ms. Carlevato. As the Benet faculty, staff, and students transition into another important school year, we await the exciting ideas Ms. Condon and Ms. Carlevato will bring to Student Government.
