Hitting the Hardwood in Pontiac
Over Christmas break the boys varsity basketball team played in the Holiday Pontiac tournament at Pontiac High School. Coach Gene Heidkamp and his team finished the tournament with two wins and two losses, and there were many highlights and exciting moments throughout the course of the tournament. The boys defeated Danville in game one with a score of 66-62. They later went on to win over Warren Township, 49-37. The team was onto a great start but were upheld and posed for a loss against Bloom Township 42-61. After giving their all against Bloom Township, Benet put up another hard fought game but fell short and lost 48-61 against Joliet West. Despite their two losses, Benet accumulated some very impressive statistics throughout the tournament. Senior Jack Prock had a lights-out performance with ten three pointers throughout the tournament and had a high of 19 points against Danville. Senior Colin Crothers was having a field day on the boards with a total of 29 rebounds in the tournament. Junior Tyler VanEkeren utilized his teammates to get the points on the board with 9 assists. Currently the boys varsity team is 9-2 after their win against Marian Central Catholic Hurricanes over Christmas break. The boys next game will be against Nazareth Academy at Nazareth on January 10th.
