Boys golf finishes an un-fore-gettable season
This season, the twelve young men on the Benet Academy varsity golf team were successful in their journey to the IHSA State Competition. The trip to state, though, was long and arduous. Since their first invitational tournament of the season, the team did exceptionally well. At the Redhawk Invite, the squad placed second with a total score of 301 strokes, falling just 16 strokes short of first place and being named Neuqua Valley champions. While the Redwings put up a strong fight at their match facing the previous champion, they still lost by two strokes with a score of 136.
Despite the loss, they continued to play well and placed fourth out of 22 teams at the Batavia Invite with a total score of 316. Gradually making their way to the state tournament, the boys placed second at Conference with a score of 315, third at Regionals with a score of 323, and second at Sectionals with an exceptionally low score of 309. Finally at State, the Redwings placed 6th, making this the second-best finish in Benet Academy golf history.
Overall, the boys hit well with every stroke at every match. This year’s seniors this year – Phil Heidkamp, Nick Magas, Jack Paras, Charlie Romenesko, and Jonah Snelling- showed great leadership and supported their younger teammates. They set great examples for all of the underclassmen, leaving them with high expectations for years to come.
