Girls volleyball keeps eyes on postseason
The Benet Academy Redwings girls volleyball team is off to a promising start, kicking off the 2018 season with a 23-4 record. Due to their phenomenal record, the girls are ranked second in the state of Illinois.
“Our greatest strength is how committed our players are,” head coach Brad Baker told the Benet Herald. “The girls are working very hard, in hopes that we will be ready for the postseason.”
In a conference with six ranked teams, and four teams in the top six in the state of Illinois, it is particularly impressive how well the Redwings are doing. They have reached the championship game in both of the tournaments they have competed in, finishing second in both the Wheaton North Invite and the Wheaton Classic.
There have been a few problems with staying healthy, however. At the beginning of the season, junior Sophie Gregus had a back injury. As the season progressed, freshman Anne Marie Remmes suffered a concussion, and sophomore Caitlin Wepfer had a hand injury. Currently, senior Caitlin McKee is working her way through an ankle injury. Despite these setbacks, the Redwings are still prepared to make a deep postseason run.
