Boys Basketball Begins
Last year, the Benet Academy boys basketball team made a run all the way to the Class 4A state championship. Although they lost to Curie in the finals, the Redwings had much to be proud of last season. Placing second in the state was a huge accomplishment.
Turning our attention to this year, the Redwings only return two starters from last year’s championship team. However, with starters Jack Nolan and Liam Lyman at the helm, the Redwings have a solid core in their starting lineup. They also return sixth man Justin Enochs (‘17) from last season along with Matt Teglia (‘17). Led by head coach Gene Heidkamp, who has labeled one of the best coaches in the state, the team could be a dark horse to make another run deep into the state tournament.
The team has already gotten off to a great start as they are currently 5-0. Hopefully, this is a sign of another strong season as the Redwings look to exceed expectations once again.
The Redwings will be playing Notre Dame on Friday the 9th. The first home game of the season will be Tuesday the 13th versus Montini Catholic. Let’s go Redwings!
