The Variety Show: A Benet Staple

On February 1st and 2nd, Benet Academy hosted its annual classic: the Variety Show. Comprised of various displays of student talent from singing and dancing to slam poetry, the Variety Show is just a sampling of all the talent that Benet has to offer. Two acts filled with Benet Academy talent, the culmination of the event came at the very end in the form of the Teacher Skit, a fan favorite. This year some of the student’s favorite teachers, such as Mr. Maggio, Doc Gimmell, Mr. Leszczynski, and Mr. Nagis, faced off in a Benet-themed Family Feud style game.

The Variety Show has always drawn a crowd, and this year was no exception! Seats were sold out, and the upper wings were opened for standing room only, something that had not previously been done before. Senior Gwyneth Burns, of the Student Government Organizing Committee, was elated to see this. The committee had been working hard to plan the show since the first week of January. Since there was so many behind the scenes work to get done, the SG Special Events Committee (Seniors Gwyneth Burns, Grace Christin, and Taylor Horowitz) met during lunch or homeroom at least once a week to ensure the show went off without a hitch. Both Christin and Burns had high praise for the performers at the show stating that “the dedication and spirit of all those involved in the Variety Show as something I will miss next year” and “the show and the talent have always made me proud to be a Benet student.” And so, after a month of hard work and preparation from performers, organizers, and backstage crew, the curtain closed on another successful Variety Show at Benet Academy.
