Three Thoughtful Tales of the Macabre: The Benet Academy Fall Play

Halloween weekend is always promisingly full of spooks and scares, and Benet’s fall play did its part to deliver. The play was comprised of three one act plays: “Mirrors”, “To Burn a Witch “and “The Lottery.” Each was scarier than the last. “Mirrors” told the story of a deranged father struggling to find reality. “To Burn a Witch” gave a haunting insight into the corruption of the Salem Witch Trials. And lastly “The Lottery” reminded its audience of the horrifying consequences of blindly following a prejudice under the pretense of tradition.
These stellar performances were only achieved through seven weeks of hard work. Senior Justin Smusz who has been in every drama production since his freshman year, views the rehearsals as less of work but more of an experience in which he learns about himself as an artist.

Sophomore Erin Schoeberle, also remarked on the joy of her time preparing for the fall play, saying, “We [the cast] all had great chemistry, which is essential for a great show!” This chemistry certainly showed on stage, as each line ran seamlessly into another to craft a one of a kind show experience. No detail, big or small, was overlooked in the Benet fall play, and the result was a truly spellbinding show.
