Rock and Roll Rebellion Takes Center Stage in All Shook Up

“C’mon Everybody,” what do you get when you combine Shakespeare’s
“Twelfth Night” and Elvis Presley’s top music hits? The Broadway hit “All Shook Up”, of course! Talented students should dust off their “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Follow That Dream” to the upcoming musical auditions for Benet’s version of this upbeat jukebox musical set in a 1950s Midwest town.
imageThe story centers around hip swiveling, guitar-playing Chad, who kicks up
the excitement after he rides into town on his motorcycle. He learns that the Mamie Eisenhower’s Decency Act is in force, outlawing “Loud music, public necking and tight pants,” (also banned in the Redwing Guidebook by the way). But Chad doesn’t play by the rules. Chad influences the townspeople to live life a little rebelliously by discovering romance and rock and roll.
Junior, Maddie Barbeau, commented, “I’m super excited about this year’s musical choice. Even though I enjoy being in classic musicals like ‘Cinderella’, this year’s show features upbeat music and will allow the theatre department to showcase some powerful voices. Many that Benet audiences may not have heard yet. It’s a high-energy show with great music and a lot of heart. I love all the classic Elvis songs because they all tell such beautiful stories about love, and they just make you smile. You just ‘can’t help falling in love’ with the production!”
Musical Directors, Mr. Brian Wand, Ms. Kelsey Lauren, and Ms. Lauren Condon, are excited at the prospect of bringing this production to Benet Academy. Students interested in a role in the musical should put the following dates on their calendars, because “It’s Now or Never.” If past musical productions are any guide, you’ll be “All Shook Up” if you miss this show!
