The Benet Academy baseball team entered the 2017 season with high expectations. With many key contributors from last year’s regional championship-winning team returning, the sky was the limit. As of lately, they have undoubtedly lived up to those expectations.

Benet kicked off the season with a nail-biting 5-4 victory over Wheaton North on March 23. They have maintained this momentum throughout the season thus far, as they are currently 16-5, which places them in third place in the ESCC. This record is thanks largely in part to the team’s performance in April; they won 11 of the 12 games they played that month.

Tyler Bautista (’17) and Jack Schneider (’18) have helped man the infield, while Marty Dosen (’17) and Erik Jones (’17) have continued their strong play in the outfield from last season. Relievers Nick Imhoff (’17) and Anthony Adams (’18) lead a Redwing pitching staff that has a team ERA of 3.81.

With the regular season drawing to a close, Benet is looking ahead to the playoffs. They currently rank fifth out of 145 teams in the 3A division, so they will enter as one of the most imposing teams on the bracket. If last year’s playoff performance was any indication, you can bet that the Redwings will be a force to be reckoned with.
