What to Watch in 2017

With a new year comes new entertainment, and fans are excited to see many long awaited movies and TV shows hit the big screen.

A Series of Unfortunate Events, a Netflix original released on January 13, is based on the popular book series centering around Violet, Klaus and Sunny, three children who lost their parents to a mysterious fire. This dark, but humorous series follows the three orphans as they outsmart the various greedy relatives attempting to steal their large inherited fortune.

Coming out February 10, The Lego Batman Movie is a spinoff of The Lego Movie (2014). The latest reboot follows Batman on his mission to save Gotham City from the Joker as he also adjusts to raising Robin, the boy who he has adopted. Batman must learn how to work with others, specifically Robin, and to make room for some jokes, humor and laughter in his serious life as a crime-fighting superhero.

The live action remake of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle, is the perfect movie for any Disney fan. It will be released on March 17, and will bring a fresh perspective to one of the most beloved Disney princess films. This live action remake will include most of the same musical numbers as the original animated movie, including a twist on the classic Beauty and the Beast theme sung by Ariana Grande and John Legend. This remake is guaranteed to charm younger audiences and remind adult viewers of childhood memories.

The creators of hit Netflix original Stranger Things released the show’s first season in July of 2016 and have recently announced a second season set for July of this year. Viewers have been anxiously awaiting the second installment from the Duffer Brothers, creators of the intricate plot following the sinister circumstances behind the mysterious disappearance of a local boy. Season two will bring beloved characters such as Eleven back to the screen and give audiences eight more episodes of new, exciting plot twists.

Last but not least, the long anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII will fly into theaters December 15. This most recent blockbuster will follow Rey, Finn and Luke Skywalker across the galaxies as Rey explores the Force, her family origins, and the new world she has discovered.
